My girlfriends and I always book our stay at River North. The rooms are nice..(especially in the renovated section)...the people are warm and friendly, and the surrounding area is spectacular. The Ohio House Diner across the street has a fantastic waitress (Kim), and we are especially fond of Wallace, who is one of the parking attendants. He always the best smile and gives great suggestions for eating and night life activities. I always recommend this hotel for it's location, friendly staff and reasonable rates!

All the food choices above are completely true; Portillo's has a huge variety of all different fares for a great prices; you could consume your time in Chicago by trying all they have to offer; highly recommended. Pizzeria Ora does have great pizza; tried and true by me. I am a big breakfast person, and in the busy city of Chicago, it can be hard to find a good, hearty breakfast joint that serves more than bagels and coffee. The Ohio House does not look like much from the outside, but it's breakfast is spectacular. If you are like me, looking for a huge traditional style breakfast, go to the Ohio house right accross the street. Going to the bars? The Cubby Bear usually has a good shooter special during Cubs games. Also, a fun way to get on the water without overspending is the water taxi that goes between Navy Pier and Shedd's Aquarium. It's cheaper than a cab ride or a boat tour on the lake, yet it serves both pursposes by tranportation and still getting a fun boat ride out of it. The best free show in Chicago are the 4th of July fireworks. They are the best I have seen since I was a kid, and they usually put on a show several nights over the course of the weekend, so you might get 2 or 3 firework shows over the 4th of July, just make sure to have an accessible escape so you're not caught in the mob crowd fighting to get out after the show.
