If you’ve stayed at our hotel recently you may have seen our Open Bookshelf in the lobby. It’s our version of ‘Take a book, Leave a book’. But did you know that those books are supplied to us by our neighbors and local non-profit, Open Books? To support their literacy programs, Open Books collects used books that are then sold in their amazing book store. As part of Best Western Plus River North’s commitment to socially conscious programs, we have established a book drive on behalf of Open Books that is open to all of our guests. But this month we’re stepping up our efforts in a new ‘Book Into Chicago’ contest. Any person who donates a used book by May 27th will automatically be entered to win a fun prize pack that includes an Open Books t-shirt, 500 Best Western Rewards points and a cool “Chicago; Then & Now” table book!
Besides providing community programs like Reading Buddies & Creative Writing Field Trips, Open Books also operates a great book store! The amazing work that Open Books does was even featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams! And on May 13th, Best Western River North will be participating in the Open Books event “Make the Case“. Our team, the Best Western Bookers (comprised of employees from the hotel) will be competing against others in decorating book cases that will then be filled with books and given to partner nonprofits across Chicago! To learn more about the event, click the Make the Case flyer and stay tuned for more updates!
