Our hotel, Best Western Plus River North, most recently celebrated September as National Literacy Month through our ongoing partnership with Open Books, a nonprofit organization in our own neighborhood aimed at promoting literacy in Chicago.
Open Books is a used bookstore that utilizes its profits for providing creative writing field trips and literacy events. They focus on improving children’s literacy and work specifically with Chicago public schools. How great is that! And it’s all Nonprofit! And thanks to our continuing partnership with Open Books we also have a way for our guests to benefit too!
Who hasn’t wished they’d brought something to read while traveling? If you forgot it on your nightstand, you’re a bookworm, or you want to feel particularly intellectual during your stay, we’ve got you covered. When you enter our lobby for check-in you’ll see a bookshelf, and you can take any book for FREE! Open Books provides this shelf for us, and in exchange our guests can take a book or leave a book (or both!). For those patrons staying with us who want to donate a book, we offer 250 Bonus Best Western Rewards Points as a “thank you” for helping our community and literacy in Chicago.
For National Literacy Month we’ve been collecting monetary donations in addition to donated books, all of which goes directly to Open Books. Our staff, which regularly participates in Open Books community events, is thrilled to have this partnership and to offer you this service. And judging by the traffic around our bookshelf, our guests like it too!
Want to do your own perusing of our bookshelf? Book a room at Best Western Plus River North Hotel and browse upon check-in.
Don’t forget to check out “Book Your Trip: Revelry 2011” this November 4th, Open Books’ largest fundraiser to increase literacy in Chicago.
