Runners from all over the United States and the world converge on Chicago to run just over 26 miles, testing the limits of their strength and endurance.
This year, we’re sponsoring our own runner – David! A local businessman and upstanding guy, he’ll be running to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! (If you’d like to make a donation to David so that he can meet his fundraising goal for Ronald McDonald House Charities, please Follow This Link.)
We asked David about his training. He’s been steadily building up his distance for months and running everyday. The race is 26.2 miles. “That last 0.2 mi is the hardest part,” says David. “You definitely feel like being done by 26.”
The course starts in Grant Park at Columbus Drive and Monroe Street. At the end of the race, the Chicago Marathon 27th Mile Post-race Party takes place in Butler Field of Grant Park. This gets underway at 10 a.m. and goes until 3:30 p.m.
The party, open to the public, includes food and drinks for purchase as well as live entertainment. A tasty free serving of 312 Urban Wheat Ale will also be on hand for official marathon runners 21 years and older.
The streets remain closed for the Chicago Marathon, but open up again to traffic after 6 hours and 30 minutes from the start of the race.
If you’re coming out to the marathon or staying with us, help cheer on David! We’ll be out there on race day with smiles and signs of support for him and the other runners. Join us!
